And so begins 2001: A Goon Odyssey...

I just updated the GSL page. Go check it out. Things are starting to move! Lemon and I have been discussing the next LAN party. More details on that later. :-) Starting with our next match, we will be moving from the GS IRC server to GamesNet IRC. This move has nothing to do with the quality of our IRC server (it will still be used to broadcast match happenings). I just need to be in #gsl and our channel (#goonsquad) at the same time and don't want to have to have two copies of mIRC open at the same time. I will op everybody when you connect.

Happy New Year!

I'm sure it doesn't seem that way to most everyone who visits this site but the years are just flying by for me. I can't believe this clan is as old as it is and that I've been gaming for this long.

It will still be 2-4 weeks until our next match. We still need maybe 3 more clans to join our league before match play can begin. Howser and I are working on more invitations and hitting IRC in the hope of finding some more top-notch competitors. It's amazing to me just how few long-term and "real" clans there are. I'm guessing that out of the 500 so-called CS clans on the OGL and in the other leagues and ladders that only about 40 of them have been around longer than we've been playing CS. I'd bet that there are only about 30 clans total (including all games played) that have been around more than two years and are still playing. Even leagues like the STA have a lot of non-clans playing in them. Basically I'm saying that it's tough finding clans to invite. The real ones are already in 2-3 leagues. We're still looking though.

I posted a few weeks ago that I would be changing the rules to take into account participation levels when setting match rosters. While I don't completely back away from that statement, it will not be as hard and fast as some of you had assumed. All I expect from you guys is that you will actually play CS when not playing with other GS and make an attempt to improve your skills. i.e. If you suck and you NEVER play CS then I'm not going to play you in a match. It's not fair to the guys that play all the time, try to get better and try to teach the rest of us things that will make us better to be made to play with someone who's never around. Show up and hang out!

The Server Wench has been up since Thursday afternoon with no crashes and no errors! I'm going to send an email today to some of the server admin sites to advertise it. Hopefully you'll see her keeping lots of other servers asshole free very soon.

I've made some changes to our roster page. I need everyone to check your info and let me know if any of it is incorrect.

I hope everyone here has a fun and safe new year's eve.

Merry Christmas!

The Server Wench Version 1.3 has been uploaded. Click the link to the left for more information. She is still up and running on our TN server box and seems to be doing a good job keeping the servers asshole free. There has been a bit of controversy over the new language restrictions. Right now it's only restricting the most offensive slurs that anyone could use. It's not setup to restrict common swears. Let me be clear with everyone here. If you want to use that language go ahead, but you're not welcome in this clan or on our servers. I'm sick of ignorant 14 year olds on our server calling anyone that kills them a "fa**ot" or someone joining with a name like "NiggaPlz". They wouldn't say that crap in public but think it's ok online. No. Not around me it's not.

On a lighter note, The Server Wench is also spitting out stats for our servers (combined) every 30 minutes. You can see those here.

We finally won!

13 December 2000 - karmann
For the first time in several weeks we've actually had two productive practices. At least this week if we lose it'll be because we suck and not because some of you are too damn lazy to practice. I've been considering a decision for a couple of weeks now and have finally decided to make a rules change. From this point forward match rosters will be determined by commitment to teamwork and personal skill. In other words if you never play on our servers and only come to practices or matches then you're not going to play. I need everyone to make a commitment to improve your game play on your own time. This change will not effect the STA match this week. It will be used starting in January when our league and the STA start up again. That give everyone here a full month to practice.

On a related note, the GS League is still on for a mid-January start. I'll be sending out some more invitations this weekend. We need six more east coast clans to sign up before we can start playing. If anyone can think of a good, mature clan that we should have in our league, please send me an e-mail.

22 November 2000 - karmann
Happy Thanksgiving!

It's been an odd month even when you exclude the whole election debacle. Only two matches this month and a tough loss the result of one of them. Treset has decided to leave us. Counter-Strike 1.0 was released and we all had to (once again) re-learn how to play. Not all negative. Just weird.

Our very own league is about to be launched. You can see the website here. I know it looks the same as our site. Oh friggin well. I like our site and don't really feel like coming up with something new. Invitations will be going out this weekend. If you know of any clans that we just have to invite, please let me know.

PLEASE GO VOTE FOR AL GORE!!!

cousteau forwarded me 3 new pictures from GoonSmack that he took with his webcam. Go check them out here. Also, wl has set us up yet another server at cs4.goonsquad.net:27016. Enjoy!

I realize that a lot of you are having machine issues or are sick but we really need a higher turnout at practices. Watch the messageboard for more on this subject.

As most of you know, we've been having frequent and very annoying server crashes on the servers. This is due to the most recent Half-Life patch. Apparently I've not been the only frustrated server op. Here's a letter Valve just posted to Half-Life.net.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Several issues with HL 1104 have come to our attention and we wanted to make sure that the server admins know what steps we're taking to address the known issues. First, due to a mix-up with our version control software (totally our fault), we had a regression sneak into this build with respect to the status command. The code that printed out the user's IP address was inadvertently omitted from the 1104 source base. We'll be addressing this in a server-only release in the next week or so. Note that we're going to recheck all of the combined code as we've had unconfirmed reports of at least two other issues that appear to be regressions in the code base.

Next, we've had some complaints about some changes to the way rcon works, in particular, that rcon now places double quotes around each separate token making the "say" command from rcon a bit difficult to use. We'll be looking into fixing that as well.

Finally, we've been getting some reports of servers going down with the following message:

Error SZ_GetSpace: overflow without FSB_ALLOWOVERFLOW set

We're looking into this, but we really need additional information on exactly what is going on when this happens (what mod is being run, is the server running any server side bots, does it occur on a totally full server only, etc.). If anyone out there has a definite repro case for this error (or any other server crash issue), please let us know right away.

Thanks.

So hopefully we'll have this resolved next week. /me crosses his fingers

After a two game losing streak we came back strong to avenge our previous loss to EAF. Good game guys!

8 October 2000 - karmann
Happy Anniversary!!!

This week marks the two year anniversary of the group of friends we call The Goon Squad. As I've said before, I'm more proud of our longevity than our record. GS is more like a fraternity than a team. It's a little hard to organize some kind of online party to celebrate our anniversary but I would like to encourage everyone to play as much CS as you can bear every night this week on either cs3 or cs4. Also jump on our Battlecom server as much as possible.

This week also is the one year anniversary of my firing from the hellhole known as ParagonCo. The post traumatic stress syndrome is over and life is 100x better. I'll be fragging a little harder this week in celebration!

Our practice schedule has changed slightly. Our Monday practice is now a non-serious practice and has been moved up to 9pm. I'm starting a Tuesday practice at 9pm for those of us that map out the strats to jump on a server and test some stuff out. Monday is mandatory and Tuesday isn't but you're welcome to come if you want to help set our strategies.

After our four game win streak we're now on a two game losing streak. Close ones too. We did have 12 of our 15 active guys show up though. That's awesome! BattleCom has helped us keep it close but we need to actually PRACTICE the maps beforehand if we expect to win. On a related note we are no longer on the OGL ladder. We're going to just play in the STA for the time being and hopefully will be joining the RITD league soon.

I'm going to try to organize a practice every Tuesday at 9:30.

10 August 2000 - karmann
Good win tonight guys!

GoonSmack 2000 has come and gone. =( What a friggin blast it was though. Pictures and stories will follow in the next couple of weeks. For those of you who don't have Q3A or Urban Terror, Go get them! Urban Terror is a friggin blast!

This week's STA map is Aztec. Go practice it.

29 July 2000 - karmann
GoonSmack 2000 baby!

Good game tonight GS. Same goes to TiT. I knew it wasn't gonna be easy. There was no way they were gonna suck given how often they borrow our server for matches. LOL I'm putting us on rest in the OGL until after GoonSmack. Don't forget our STA match tomorrow at 7:30pm EDT and the usual STA match at 9:30pm Thursday.

14 July 2000 - karmann
Fun, fun, fun...

One of the reasons I handle the match setups and try to insulate you guys from it is because it mostly sucks. We're in this for fun and I'm trying to keep you guys out of the shitty parts. That said, sometimes other clans aren't satisfied with simply winning. They have to try and make us feel bad. Like we suck or something. I need everyone to keep in mind that we started off in AQ2 doing this bad. Just relax, have fun and realize that we just need more practice. Clans with nasty attitudes or shitty in-game conduct won't last as long as we have or have the retention rate we have. I'm more proud of that than our match record.

Also, Gunslinger has decided to resign from GS. His PC can't handle HL or CS so he didn't feel like there was any point to staying. If anyone asks about taking his spot, we're full. I think all of our friends are in the clan now anyway.

Come to GoonSmack 2000!!!!!

12 July 2000 - karmann
Introducing!.... GoonSmack 2000

The first (of what hopefully can become an annual event) Goon Squad LAN party will be held August 4-6 here in beautiful Knoxville Tennessee. If you think you could make it please go to the messageboard and reply to the appropriate thread. /me is pumped

Happy Canada Day and Happy Independence Day!

Just a quick reminder that we now have an STA match every Thursday night at 9:30pm EDT. I need to know if this doesn't work for anyone so I can switch one to another night every now and again so everyone gets a chance to compete. We also have an OGL match scheduled for Wednesday night at 10:30pm EDT. Please let me know if you can make it ASAP.

2 July 2000 - karmann
We're back up to two servers. This IP is now active and seems to be very playable: 134.53.64.179:27015. Enjoy.

It's been a tough week to be a Goon. We lost our OGL match last night (not even close). Not the same type of learning experience as our match with NHG. We basically learned that playing an LPB west coast clan on a non-neutral server is a very bad idea. So as of midnight last night we are now on the new east coast CS ladder of OGL. Check the private messageboard for the join password and everyone please go sign up ASAP.

30 June 2000 - karmann
To de-emphasize the point... We currently only have one CS server (cs.goonsquad.net). The TN server is down for the time being and most likely will not come back. Still a slim chance but don't get your hopes up. I have strong leads for two more servers at the following IPs: 134.53.64.179 and 208.16.225.42. Please ping them and let me know if you think they'll work well for you.

Most of you know by now that we lost our first STA-CS match. But what you may not know is that we lost against the best clan on the toughest ladder by a final score of 24-21. I don't think we should feel bad about this at all. We learned a few things... a) Even though most of us have only been playing CS for 2-3 months we don't suck. b) We can compete with some older CS clans. c) Some sweet tactics that NHG employed on de_train. I took good notes. GG NHG and thanks for a smooth match. Did anybody else notice that the match went off without a hitch. That doesn't happen on the OGL ladder.

Everyone please give a big GS welcome to our three newest members: BizZ, Frost and Garrland. Most of you already know BizZ and Frost but you probably haven't met Garrland yet. He's a RL friend of Dropzone's (I've been hearing stories of him for years). Welcome! That puts us up to 22 members. I think we're done recruiting for a while. Never say never though.

19 June 2000 - karmann
To re-emphasize the point... We have two (yes that's right 2) CS servers: cs.goonsquad.net:27015 and cs2.goonsquad.net:27015 (IP for the latter is 216.82.43.139 - probably not in the DNS server yet)

On the OGL... some of you said that we'd never get anywhere on the ladder because we only started playing CS two months ago and the ladder was so big. Well you were wrong. As I predicted, most of the clans on the OGL ladder aren't what you could consider serious or dedicated. We just got another forfeit win to take the 80th position and submitted a challenge for 41st. Now I think we're going to start seeing some serious teams. If we keep working on our CS skills and teamwork we could be in the top 20 here in a few weeks. I just hope our latest challenge accepts. And this isn't just us moving up this way. Take a look at the history for most teams... "no game played" is a common sight.

I'm calling for a practice tomorrow night at 9pm EDT. Probably on the NY server (cs.goonsquad,net). I'd like to institute a weekly, Tuesday night practice. Does that NOT work for anyone? Please let me know.

I've also, once again, modified the RCON rules and password. The newest password is posted in the private section. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO LET IT OUT. The rules change is around kicking to join and the map rotation.

7 June 2000 - karmann
For those of you that don't know, we finally have our own CS server thanks to wl! cs.goonsquad.net:27015 Please check there before you choose to play anywhere else hopefully we can build the high level of competition that our AQ2 server used to attract.

Also, I've updated the rules for RCON usage and posted the RCON password to the GS section of the messageboard. If you break these rules you will lose RCON priveledges. Period!

I've also posted a Half-Life console commands file to our website and added a link on our files page. Read up.

Things are looking up!

I'm all settled into my new house. My ISDN line is working great and we finally won our first Counter-Strike OGL match! Phew! I realize that a lot of you are busy with school still but I'm really looking forward to playing on our new server a lot. I will be submitting another challenge as soon as CMC reports the loss.

12 May 2000 - karmann
Still busy...busy...busy...

The next week and a half is going to be incredibly busy for me. As I mentioned before, I will be moving down here to Knoxville permanently next week and therefore, will not be online from today at 5 until Wednesday May 24th. Assuming that my ISDN line gets installed and that I can buy and configure a TA for Win2K. I will be online during the day starting next Wednesday but evenings will be "internet free" for another week.

Nun will also be unavailable from today through next Tuesday. Howser has stepped up and volunteered to handle things in our absence. He will basically be handling any challenges that come our way. We don't want the automated OGL system to give us a forfeit simply because we didn't respond to a challenge.

I will be using my offline evenings to unpack and get some things done on the computer that I've been delaying for a while. Like some consulting work, bug fixing AQ2 1.6 and the HTML for the [20ID] Quake3Fortress squad (for which I am co-captain with BizZ and KiD EGO). Hopefully I'll be back on the 24th with a clean plate, stable connection and plenty of good gaming time.

Last but most certainly not least... a big GS welcome to our newest member... Scrappi (aka N*Stync and BlueleadZ). Friends are always welcome to join.

5 May 2000 - karmann
Busy, busy, busy...

Only two more weekends of commuting back to Ohio. We are moving the week of May 15th. I will be unavailable this weekend and the following days: 5/12-16, 5/18-23. May have not been the wisest thing to have signed us up on the OGL ladder right now. Oh well. Nun is in charge and we appear to have enough enthusiasm to get a good squad together for any matches.

Yes, for those of you that come to this site that don't already know, we are back in the OGL. Half-Life Counter Strike Open Ladder. Instructions on how to join our squad are in the GS Discussion messageboard.

Welcome to our new (and sometimes old) members: Everman (aka Kevin), Treset, MikFly, Talon, Lemonhead and HUM. Lemonhead is a co-worker of mine that I've gotten hooked on CS. HUM is a friend of Nun's that he described as "Speebs' twin". Scary. Anyway... Welcome!!!

Remember, if you show up for a match you will play. Unless of course we have everyone show up. Then somebody will have to volunteer to sit out. Anyway, we're in it for fun this time.

20 April 2000 - karmann
It's been a long time since the last update. A lot has happened in Real Life and for the clan...

My wife and I finally sold our house in Ohio and bought a house down here in Tennessee. Nothing has closed yet but it should happen within the next 3 weeks. Our new house is much nicer and bigger than our old one. I'm pumped! The only negative thing is that it's not in the ADSL service area and cable modems aren't due till this fall. But I can get ISDN. There will be a small gap where I'll be going analog again till the line gets installed but that shouldn't last long. /me knocks on wood

Most of you should already know that we as a clan have decided to focus on Counter-Strike. I am kicking myself for not having started playing this MOD months ago. I played it last August at a LAN party and dismissed it as a AQ2 clone. Mistake. It's where all the good competition is and reminds me of the early days of AQ2 before strafe jumping was discovered and clans actually used some strategy.

Anyway, it should be fun getting to know a new mod and competing as a clan again. I've put some "feelers" out about some friends joining us for CS. If any of you have a friend(s) that might want to join let me know.

I'll update the Table of Contents with Counter-Strike links next week. wl is in the process of updating everyone's goonsquad.net email addresses. I just updated the roster page so please check over your info (age, hometown, timezone) and let me know if anything needs to be changed. Thanks.

Some of you guys have been asking to test Action for Unreal Tournament. Well as of today I am no longer on the project. That's right! After 4 weeks of work and a lot of progress I'm out.

FYI... I had the following working:
Reloading
Bandaging
Bleeding
Leg Damage (including not being able to jump)
Movement based accuracy
Sniper zoom
Falling Damage
And I was 1 day away from having positional damage.

It was an interesting learning experience and I'll find another project to work on soon.

UPDATE:
There seems to be some confusion here. I'm not saying that AUT is now this far along because I did all the stuff listed above. I'm saying that I was kicked off the team and that the stuff listed above is all being scraped.

I'm back... lots of stuff to discuss...

Parker David Witt was born on 2/10 at 9:38am. 6lbs 13oz and 19.5". Here's how the morning went for the Witt family:
6:00am: Nikki wakes up and does her morning workout.
6:45am: Nikki realizes that the pain she's feeling is coming and going. After timing it, realizes that the pains are 5 minutes apart and calls me in Tennessee. I tell her to call the hospital.
7:00am: Nikki calls the hospital and they tell her to "wait a couple of hours and see if they get any worse"
7:10am: Nikki calls me and I tell her to call my parents and get to the hospital anyway.
8:00am: My parents arrive to take her to the hospital and I hit the road.
8:10am: Nikki arrives at the hospital and the doctor discovers that she's already 7 cm dilated.
8:40am: I pass a Tennessee state trooper doing 95mph and don't even bother to slow down. He catches up with me and for some strange reason doesn't pull me over. He just rolls down his window and I yell. "My wife is in labor in Ohio". He waves me on. Thank you Mr. State Trooper.
9:38am: I'm still south of Lexington when Parker is born. Missed it. I'm doing 110mph for most of Kentucky.
10:15am: I get pulled over by a Kentucky State Trooper who also lets me go as soon as I tell him what's going on. Another big Thank You!
11:15am: I arrive in Oxford. 292.5 miles in 3.25 hours (yes, that's right I averaged 90mph for 3.25 hours).
11:20am: I meet my new son. =)

Interesting day. Never driven over 100 for more than 1 minute before. You'd be amazed how quickly the road goes by at that speed. Parker is awesome! Josh isn't too interested in his little brother yet. I'm gonna scan in some pictures tomorrow and I'll post them here.

As most of you know, we lost two members (can't go away for one damn week). Bulldog and Mikfly. Bulldog... I'd like to say that I'm sorry to see you go but at least I won't hear anymore complaints about you or be told that I'm an asshole simply because I wear the same tag as you. Though I hope your parent still hang out on the messageboard with us. Mikfly... I'm just happy you chose to join GS when 20ID wasn't working for you. I'm glad to hear that you're finally getting your own computer too. You're welcome back anytime.

Redlead has removed us from the FF ladder on OGL. We have had a lousy turnout for our last few matches and it doesn't look to be getting any better. IMHO, the AQ2 community is dying a slow death. The number of clans is dwindling and the number of servers is a joke. And most of those are full of whiners that suck the fun right out of playing (*cough* bd *cough*). As far as I'm concerned, this clan only exists still because we're friends. If anyone wants to get serious about AQ2 we need to know because Real Life seems to be everyones top priority right now. That's a good thing BTW. I'd like to see us keep playing our 1 match every couple of weeks, but other than that it's just nice to talk on ICQ with you guys. Along those lines, I'd like to hear everyones opinion about opening our roster up to our friends. Some of you had a problem with the "way Redlead got in GS". I didn't have a problem with it for a few reasons... a) I needed the leadership experience at the time and b) I knew him and liked him already. I want to know if any of you have a friend (or two) that we all know that would like to join. I need everyones opinion on this on the messageboard. Please, shoot holes in it. Maturity is key here. No children please.

Speaking of Real Life... kinda. I am now officially a member of the A-Team. I'm the secondary coder on Action for Unreal Tournament with responsibility for the first beta version. The thought is that Mr_Grim is busy with AHL and I'll be working hard on getting the basics (AQ2 DM features) of AUT working as quickly as possible. Of course I'll be keeping everyone posted.

Time for bed. Gotta get back to work tomorrow.

Good Wins

Well I am sorry but I didn't get any screenshots for last night. So I will just give you a recap on what happened.

First round (Urban 3)
We sucked on the first couple rounds than came back and tied them at 7 to 7. But they ended up winning a round in the last 30 seconds.

Second Round (Teamjungle)
We were warmed up and ready to play on this map and it showed. I believe it was 13 to 4 in the end.

Third Round (Actcity 2)
This round was campers haven, long and drawn out I think one round was 5 minutes. Anyways we won it 14 to 5.

I think we would have lost if it wasn't for the inspirational words. For those of you that don't know the inspirational words they are JA JA JA!!!!! Well that's about it.

Merry Christmas everybody! I will be offline for the next 5 days. Back in Ohio doing the Western Ohio Tour and visiting family. I hope you all have a wonderful and safe holiday. I'll be back late Monday night.

19 December 1999 - karmann
Welcome back MikFly! Yes, that's right... everyones favorite ex-twentyincher has decided to start playing in GS again.

It looks like we've had a lot more people around these last two weeks. Great! I've been playing a lot since I got ADSL. And I'm starting to get my rhythm back. I had to un-tweak my PC to allow it to run at full speed. It was tweaked for my old P233/Voodoo1.

And yes, Master is still in charge. Any clan challenges should be directed at him. I can handle personality conflicts but the match stuff is in Master's able hands.

14 December 1999 - karmann
I'm back! Things have finally settled down here in Knoxville. My new job is very cool and I finally got setup with ADSL through BellSouth. You should be seeing me online all the time now!

Also... I'm gonna test running a server from my PC here at work. The IP address is 128.169.50.100:27910. Everybody please test it out. It's on the University of Tennessee's internet connection which is supposed to be a T3 but usually gives less bandwidth than my ADSL connection. Let me know what you think on the messageboard.

Good to be back!

Could we be on a winning streak again?

Note:
Yes... I know there's a major gap in the dates here. Somebody (*cough*Master*cough*) screwed up the post history while I was on hiatus. Oh well. No big loss.

Since I updated this last we've taken 1st place from 20ID, gotten our asses kicked by 20ID in a scrimmage and defended 1st place against AWE. It's been a very exciting couple of weeks. I'd like to thanks [20ID]GodInc and (awe)Parasite for giving us the two easiest match setups we've had in a long time. It's so refreshing to deal with clan leaders that I trust.

I have no idea when our next match will be. The AQ2 OGL ladder is being upgraded to the next version of the Gameladder software. So all the clans have to sign up again. Don't worry, we don't lose our position or our win/loss record. But everyone will have to sign themselves up as a member of GS. I'm guessing that they'll give us about a week to get everything straightened out before they allow any challenges to take place.

I'm still working on setting up some informal scrimmages. Sorry guys.

12 July 1999 - karmann
I've updated the link below and the links on the files page for the PAK file. It's now pointing to a ZIP file. Some of you were having problems with downloading the PAK file from Netscape.

Our match with 20ID is now probably gonna happen this Wednesday at 10pm EDT. Sorry for all the waffling but GodInc and I have had a hell of a time coming up with a time that works well for both teams. We both want this to be an even, fair matchup.

Some of you may not know that there's a zip file in the files section of some custom skins for my server. I realize that they both have the same color pants. I'm working on changing the color of the goon skin pants. There will be a messageboard post when and if they change.

Clan VaX has challenged us to a scrimmage this coming weekend. I'll send an email when things get finalized.

Last, but CERTAINLY not least, a big round of applause to bLaCkLoTuS, Sphaltz and Brenter for their work on the amazingly cool Flash animation. I've always been proud of my work on this site but I've never before wanted to show it off to everyone I know.

9 July 1999 - karmann
Our next OGL match will be next Tuesday, July 13 (tentatively) vs. 20ID. These guys are damn good so everybody try to make it to practice the next two nights. Please read GodInc's messageboard post about neutral servers. We need to make a decision here ASAP!

You can download a custom pak that I modified specifically for GS
here. Thanks to MikFly for supplying the pak file. Something he acquired from AQ2OG and Kramed. The only changes I made to it were to the console background and the menu plaque (on the left). I've cleaned up the console background quite a bit from the one that I sent some of you the other day. Download it to see. I'd like to find something to put above the name but I'm not the artistic type. If anyone has anything, let me know. This does contain custom crosshairs so if you want to keep your current ones make sure that the ones you want are the highest numbered pak file. These are pretty cool though.

I've gotten quite a few complaints recently about some of you and your attitudes, etc. Some annoying crap that you've done on mine and some other servers. Cut it out! I'm sick of apologizing for your behavior to other server ops and players.

I've not made any progress setting up more scrimmages so that the rest of us can play. I'm gonna make a promise here that before the end of the month we'll have had 2-3 scrimmages. Everyone (but the usuals) will play if they show up. If any other clans read this and want to scrimmage drop me an email. I realize that some of you are getting annoyed with not playing. That'll change soon, I promise.

And lastly... I'd like to bid a fond farewell to Doug Howser. He's shipping out tomorrow (??) for boot camp. He's gonna be a U.S. Marine. We'll miss you buddy. Your spot will be here for you if and when you come back.

3 July 1999 - karmann
Happy 4th everyone! I hope everyone gets to shoot off some fireworks this weekend! Given the holiday weekend, our match with TOOL has been postponed till Tuesday night. The AQDT guys have started a 2-on-2 AQ tourney. If anyone is interested go here to check it out.

I've also made a decision concerning recruits and the modem ladder... I don't have the time to manage another squad. Even one I'm playing in. We've got some good potential member but I just don't think we should add anyone else. I'll be sending emails out to everyone that was interested later today. Sorry.

28 June 1999 - karmann
The Goon Squad is no longer in the TFC business.

25 June 1999 - karmann
The OGL is starting an AQ2 modem ladder this weekend after they upgrade their gameladder software. I don't know if that means that the current ladder will be reset again (I hope not) or if they're just adding another ladder. So we'll be signing up a squad for those of us that use modems. I think we have enough guys.

24 June 1999 - karmann
It's been brought to my attention that I missed the fact that Kevin also graduated. Congrats Kevin! Don't suppose you'd consider coming to Miami University for college?!?

Nun... Miami was a University before Florida was a state.

Kevin... We're all looking forward to the release of Action Half-Life so we can start fraggin you again. :-)

Back to work.

23 June 1999 - karmann
Having a messageboard has made me very lazy about updating this page. Sorry. A few things...

Apparently DBD and AQK had a mix-up for their match. The leader of AQK posted a message on their messageboard about it. Their waiting on a ruling from Lath on whether DBD must forfeit. You can go read my reply if you want but basically I said. "LOL...we got next!"

Splitting the clan isn't going to happen. The only person in the second squad that is excited about the idea is Doug Howser and he's leaving in a month. Everyone else sees it as a "slam". So plan B is to start setting up lots of scrimmages. It has to be a "zero effort" kind of thing on my part though. I'm thinking that everyone should just check the messageboard by 8pm every night for a scrim that night. If you're on, you play.

There's a slim chance that we'll be able to setup a second AQ2 server on the same box that serves this website. Very slim. Wavelength and I are working on it.

Congrats to our graduates: Thrall, FightinNun, Speebs and Doug Howser! (If I missed anyone let me know)

13 June 1999 - karmann
The challenge has been submitted to DBD. The rematch awaits us. Expect them to pick some fucked up maps. I need to know which nights do not work for everyone ASAP! We're gonna be prepared for them this time.

And I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to Master for pulling him from Friday night's match. It was completely unfair. Sorry dude.

I'm calling for a practice tonight at 9. Usual password.

8 June 1999 - NightShade
Howdy! ok.. well I decided to post here because I dont know how many people actully read the message board. Tommorow (wed) we will be having a TFC match, hopefully I can figure out whats wrong with the TFC server.. it doesnt seem to be working, but I havent spent to much time on it either.

The Friday AQ2 match has been postponed to SATURDAY hopefully this will be a little more convient for Karmann.

One a side note - Everybody should go buy Mechwarrior 3, its a wicked game!

Sorry bout the spelling!

3 June 1999 - karmann
I will be leaving for my business trip first thing Saturday morning. Which means that I'll be unavailable starting tomorrow night through next Thursday. I'll be on again next Friday night (6/11). NightShade has agreed to take over the clan while I'm gone. He'll be managing the OGL ladders and the servers. He won't be handling any official OGL matches but can handle any scrimmages.

If any other clans out there want to borrow my server, please contact NightShade. His email address and UIN are both listed on the roster page. He does not have the ability to change the models, skins or team names.

Rainbow Coalition has agreed to postpone our AQ2 OGL match till Monday June 14th at 9pm EDT. It's a long way off so relax, play some AQ2, practice, scrimmage and have fun.

1 June 1999 - karmann
We finally beat AR! This establishes us as truly the best AQ2 clan around. Not just the clan that happens to be in 1st place waiting to be beaten by AR. Kudos to our squad... FightinNun, NightShade, Thrall, Ripper and bLaCkLoTuS. Awesome match! Demos will be posted soon!

Next up... probably GCB*E. They inquired about the status of our match yesterday. Given that I'll be out of town this Saturday through next Thursday and that we have a TFC match this Thursday night at 10, I don't think we'll have any more matches till at least 6/10. I'll keep everyone posted.

10-0 baby!

23 May 1999 - karmann
Another match, another win! We're on a roll. Next up AR. This should be interesting.

15 May 1999 - karmann
Next.

8 May 1999 - karmann
We've finally had our first TFC match... and we won! It takes a LOT more organization than AQ2. I can see why AR has such good communication skills. I'd like to thank Nun and Speebs for working out the rosters and strategy. Setting up matches is not as easy as it seems.

Clan LAVA has challenged us for the #1 spot in the AQ2 OGL ladder. I'll keep everyone posted on the details.

7 May 1999 - karmann
We're #1...We're #1...We're #1...We're #1...We're #1...We're #1...We're #1...We're #1!!!!!!

Congratulations on a hard fought and very stressful victory over EA for the #1 spot in the AQ2 OGL ladder. That makes us 7-0! And we can finally quit challenging and be the challenged. On a side note... I hate playing EA. The matches are way too stressful. Every time we play them it drags out and is very close.

Anyway, don't get comfortable in 1st. I have a feeling that AR will be challenging us soon. Saddle up guys. I have no intention of being embarrassed again.

Our first TFC match is set for tomorrow night. Details are on the messageboard. Please reply with your availability.

Good game!

3 May 1999 - karmann
Another win and a new challenge going out to our friends over at EA. Yes, that right, we're playing EA yet again. I know it gets a little tedious to play the same clans over and over again but they're in 1st and we want to be in 1st so...

Anyway, we're on a 6 game winning streak. Let's keep it going.

Congrats on the latest win guys! We're getting some awesome teamwork going. Communications are top-notch. I'll email everyone details on the next match.

Yes the messageboard is still down. I can't seem to figure out what's going on. I'll let you know when wl and I fix it.

30 April 1999 - karmann
Yet another win. Including our first win of a Kumanru round. That map was a blast in DM but I just don't like it for teamplay. We're now in 4th place in the QGL AQ2 ladder. There are no open slots above us so we either have to wait for a clan below us to challenge us or hope that one of the matches above us plays soon. I'd prefer to challenge than be challenged.

Demos of our BF match will be uploaded later tonight. Some good shots in there of my complete luck on the last two rounds of Kumanru and Thrall's magic on a couple of rounds of Urban.

Our first TFC match will probably be played this weekend at 9pm on Saturday or 8pm on Sunday. I need FIRM COMMITMENTS from everyone ASAP. Let me know your availability for both nights and which one is better. We need to have at least 8 guys show up. That's more than we've had in quite some time.

And remember, this site will be down part of the time this weekend. That means that the
deleted email address won't be working and our IRC server won't be working. We'll have to communicate via email and icq.

As far as the TFC/AQ2 debate goes concerning my server, I'm going to continue alternating the two. In a few weeks it will probably be full-time TFC. I agree with Nun and Thrall that there are a lot of good AQ2 servers out there. Also, if the AQ2 server isn't up every night the number of users drops. I don't think I've seen it full once in the last two weeks. The TFC server is always full. If any of you honestly think that my server is the only server where you get a decent ping then let me know and I'll keep it running. But it won't be every night.

I'm gonna send everyone an email about the TFC match. Please reply to it (i.e. don't use any of my other email addresses to reply) with your availability.

NOTE: If you show up for the TFC match, you WILL play. Maybe not both rounds but you WILL play.

24 April 1999 - karmann
Another win! This time against Rockin' Action Dudes. They've already reported the loss and we've already challenged Bacon Force for 3rd place. I'll keep you posted when I hear any details.

Our second TFC practice is scheduled for tomorrow night at 9pm EDT. Everyone that intends to play on our TFC squad, please show up. We need a practice! Hopefully AR will be joining us for a joint practice. We can learn a lot from these guys.

On a related note... Where is everyone? I realize that some of you are "grounded". :) (sorry, that's kinda funny to someone my age). But where are the rest of you? Busy with school? Girlfriends? Bored with AQ2? I'm really curious to know. At one time, we all played together a lot. We haven't had a decent turnout for a match in a month. It's a good thing that we added Bulldog, Nun and Ripper because if we hadn't we wouldn't be able to play. And you modem guys that don't usually get to play could've got some time in. Oh well.

Hope to see everyone tomorrow night!

17 April 1999 - karmann
Congratulations everyone on our victory over Full Metal Jacket for the OGL Ladder. [FMJ] Bluefunk will be reporting the loss tomorrow. As soon as they report, I'll challenge someone else. Could be a few days before a position opens up to a challenge.

For those of you viewing this page on Netscape... DON'T. It looks like crap in Netscape and I won't be fixing it for a few days. Switch to IE and see what I mean. Better huh?

Don't forget about our scrimmage/practice against EA tomorrow night at 7pm EDT. We'll be playing them on Kumanru and Urban. They're playing DS Monday night and want the practice on those two maps. Our first TFC practice will follow shortly thereafter. If any of our friends out there read this and want to join our practice, send me an email or catch me on ICQ for the password. It'd be nice to have it be 8-on-8.

From what I've seen so far, everyone seems to be doing well at TFC. Some people are just rocking everyone on our server. Let me know your "favorite maps" and "tfc classes" for the roster page. I'd forgotten how much fun it is to carry a big gun!

And any emails sent to me this weekend should be sent to
deleted. My paragonco.com email address is inaccessible for some reasone.... Dropzone?

See ya tomorrow!

15 April 1999 - karmann
More web page updates. I forgot to update the Matches link after our last two matches. If anyone knows the scores by round please let me know.

Everyone please welcome =RiP= Talon to our TFC squad. He, Phloyd and Cardinal have been on the TFC server quite a bit. And they're all wearing the (gs) tag. Cool!

I'll be setting up the Full Metal Jacket match and EA practice this weekend. I've heard from most of you about FMJ. EA hasn't been finalized yet. More later today. I'm thinking about having a TFC practice Sunday night immediately following our EA practice. That'd probably mean around 8:30-9:00pm EDT. Check the Schedule often!

14 April 1999 - karmann
Some changes to the website. Suggested by NightShade for the most part. Opinions?

12 April 1999 - karmann
Hello all!

TFC: As most of you know from my messageboard post, I'm hooked on TFC. Played way too much this weekend! Before any of you ask, I will still run the AQ2 server. (Just not tonight.) I can't run them both at the same time. I don't know how many of you are interested in playing TFC but it's my understanding that TF matches are usually 10-on-10! I need to know who's playing what by the end of this week. =RiP= Cardinal and =RiP= Phloyd are gonna join our TFC squad. We've signed up for the OGL TFC Ladder so we could be challenged any day now.

AQ2: Well, after 23 matches it was bound to happen sometime... I forgot about a match. Our match against Full Metal Jacket last Saturday. They're going to report a forfeit win and we're gonna re-challenge them. It's the fair thing to do. Oh, and the OGL dropped us again. Oops (OGL admin) is gonna add us back in the same position. Then we can resume our quest for the #1 spot.

And I plagarized these from the AR website. Gonna make some changes to the roster page later this week.

That's it for now.

7 April 1999 - karmann
Team Fortress Classic has finally been released! I'm downloading the server software (80MB) right now. The client install (19MB) won't be available until noon today EDT.

My server will be running TFC tonight (or the first night that I can get it working). Everyone who intends to compete on our TF squad, please download the client install ASAP. Depending on how much I like TFC, I may alternate nights between the two games.

In a couple of weeks we'll decide on squads... as in who will be playing TFC and/or AQ2. So jump in and play it and let me know what you think.

UPDATE: For your convenience, the TFC upgrade can be downloaded
here.

6 April 1999 - Thrall
Congratulations goons on the OGL win over the Muppet Show. Both teams tried hard, but we overpowered them on the tiebreaker. The screenshots page has been updated with the demos.

We will be playing Full Metal Jacket this week in the OGL. To prepare for this match I'm setting up a scrimmage with SpecOps, please post available times on the messageboard.

We worked well as a team this week, keep up the good work goons!

Thrall

28 March 1999 - karmann
Some minor changes to the messageboard. I've added a "schedule" group that only Thrall and I can post messages to and nobody can reply on. It replaces the old Schedule page and can be accessed directly from the Schedule link to the left.

The Public forums are for any "spam" or humorous messages. Please keep the Members Only forums as serious as possible. It'd be nice if they actually turned into a useful resource for the team.

28 March 1999 - karmann
Another Ladder bites the dust!

Well the DH League sucked. Both Clanspot tournaments were poorly run (plus we drew a bitch of an opponent in the first round of both). And numerous other tournaments/leagues never worked out. The OGL was the first one we were in that seemed to be working well. WRONG!

Due to a crash (or something like that) the OGL lost ALL their ladder information. So if we want to compete, we gotta start over. That'd put us in something like 58th position. So... I'm considering not signing us up for it. The Clanspot Clanring is set to start soon and it is setup much like the OGL. I haven't decided which one to go with. Or if we should join both. Opinions?

And, of course, that means that tomorrow night's match with 20ID is only a scrimmage. So relax, rosters will be loosened so more of our HPB's get to play, etc. Should be a fun match.

Thrall, Fightin Nun and I worked on some stragegies tonight and Thrall will be posting them to the messageboard tomorrow.

24 March 1999 - karmann
Check out the messageboard! After you register you'll have to let me know so I can give you access to the Members Only forums. The password for these has been emailed to everyone. Let's try to make the most of this and post some tips, etc.

22 March 1999 - Thrall
Congratulations guys on a hard fought win over the Elite Assassins to defend our rank in the OGL. It was a very close match, which was well played on both sides.

The first round featured one of the best comebacks I have ever seen, nice work guys. Even if you were at the match, you should all watch these demos, they display great teamwork and organization. Saturday's scrimmage really helped in developing greater team skills. Keep up the good work guys.

Thrall

20 March 1999 - Thrall
We should have a nice scrimmage today with our friends over at SpecOps. They agreed to help us practice by having a scrimmage with them on their server. I want to stress that EVERYONE who shows up for the scrimmage will get a chance to play, so make sure you show up for the festivities.

We need to get ready for tomorrow's OGL match vs. Elite Assassins so I want you guys here for this scrimmage. We made too many glaring mistakes in our last match, so be ready for Monday.

Thrall

19 March 1999 - karmann
The OGL match vs EA is scheduled for either Sunday or Monday night at 9pm EST. Our map choices are Cliff and Teamjungle. Thrall will handle everything from here. Let him know your availability ASAP!

Also, here's a
picture of me at home playing AQ2. :-)

15 March 1999- Thrall
Unfortunatley we were beaten by the Aggression Rangers on Sunday, who took the #1 spot in the OGL. They played hard and used good strategy, congrats on the nice match =AR=. We really do need to work on our team strategy, which is why more people need to show up for the practices and scrimmages.

From now on, NO ONE who doesn't participate in practice will play in matches (barring a believable excuse). This is so we can improve as a whole, and round out our skills.

I'm working on setting up some potential scrimmages, I'll keep you up to date on the progress. Also, everyone give a big welcome to Fighting Nun, our newest clan member. I'm sure you all recognize him from RIP. Next time you see him kneeling, pop a juicy sniper round into his forehead for me will ya? Hehe... (our roster is now full, no more new members will be added for a long time)

Thrall

13 March 1999 - Thrall
Ok people, we're going to be playing the Aggression Rangers on Sunday to defend our #1 rank in the OGL. Please check the schedule and let me know if you are available to attend the match, so I can set up potential rosters.

We're going to have to play hard and work together as a team to do this, everyone please try and practice on the maps that we will be playing on Sunday. You all want to stay in the #1 spot right?

Thrall

9 March 1999 - karmann
Just a quick update:

Hey wl! I can't send you any emails. They all bounce back to me. Email me an alternate address or watch for me on ICQ.

Everyone give a big Goon Squad welcome to BullDog (gs) (that means to frag his newbie ass whenever you see him on the server). He's the last person we'll be adding for a long time. And for those of you who seldom get to play, he (and Ripper) will not be playing until TFC or AHL comes out.

And I wasn't lying about having setup a Quake 3 server. It's at 208.16.225.4. You can download the demo from
here. And you can find setup information on Scene Review (that includes a link to the Powerups map). The damn thing's not even an Alpha release and it stayed up all night without a crash. Cool. I'm not sure if it's legal for me to have a server up and running. But the way I see it, id should be happy because I'm creating positive buzz and it's not like we're not gonna buy it when it comes out anyway.

8 March 1999 - karmann
As predicted, we defeated Clan Doggus in the third round of the match to take first place in the OGL! Big thanks to Bob Dobbs (USR), Oops from the OGL and KaRRiLLioN =AR= for their help and patience in completing this match. Zero thanks goes out to DOG-McGruff for the horse-shit I had to deal with this week. To his clan mates... good game. You were fun to play against. Nice guys all around.

We also scrimmaged SpecOps last Saturday night. Nobody showed up so I had to play from home on my crappy-ass modem connection. I was suckin pretty bad. Others that played were Thrall, Doug Howser, Sphaltz, BL and Ripper. Thanks guys for showing up. We came out on top, but who cares. It was just for fun anyway. SpecOps actually managed to beat us on Cliff! First time that's happened in a long time. I was impressed. And to our credit, we actually managed to win a match on Actcity2! Didn't think that would ever happen again. My role on that map was to make sure that the enemy wasted as many bullets as possible killing me so as to not have enough to kill the others. I HATE THAT MAP. :-)

Aggression Rangers wasted no time challenging us for the top spot in the OGL. Should be an interesting match. This is the one clan that's probably as good at Cliff as we are. More details later.

And check out my new, plagiarized logo. Pretty cool huh? For those of you that were wondering where I got my name. I owned a
1974 VW Karmann Ghia Cabriolet. Yes that's a picture of my actual car.

MORE (5:30PM):
I just setup a Quake 3 server. 208.16.225.4:27960. Running the Powerups map. Limit of 4 players. We'll see how stable it is.

6 March 1999 - karmann
It's been a while. No, I'm not back. Just thought I'd update everyone on the Doggus fiasco. The match is tommorrow night at 9pm est. They have until 9pm est tonight to pick a neutral server. After that I have a feeling that Oops (the new head of the OGL AQ2 ladder will pick one for us). Either that, or he'll force a forfeit. I DO NOT want to win by forfeit.

Karrillion =AR=, Clan Elay, Flash [DS] and Jazzman were all nice enough to offer their servers. As we all know those are the TOP servers out there. Although Jazzman can't set his up for a Sunday night match. But they still have a hell of a list to choose from.

Now for my rant:
Rules are not made, either in sports or in real-life, to give one group of people an unfair advantage over another. And they're never enforced simply on their word. They're open to interpretation and precedents are set based on the meaning of the rule and the fairness to all involved. The OGL's rules are confusing and sometimes contradict each other. But according to DOG-McGruff, his interpretation is the ONLY interpretation and we're cheating by having a different view. All this boils down to is the fact that he knows that the only chance he has to beat us on Cliff is to play us on his crappy, packet dropping, ISP located server.

And on a more general note. I'm sick of dealing with this shit from other clan leaders. I know that I'm not the easiest guy to deal with but I don't try to stick it to our opponents outside the game. If we're going to beat someone it should be in the game not based on who can acheive the advantage based on servers or pings.

Personally, I had a great time Monday night. The DOG guys were a lot of fun to play against. Nice guys really. As are most clans. Even though we lost the first round and couldn't see much because of the packetloss, it was still fun. Dropzone was messing around with the handcannon and I switched to the sniper rifle and we just had fun. That's what this game is supposed to be about.

Unfortuneatly, thanks to McGruff, now I want blood. It's not fun anymore. And his guys are the ones that are going to be embarrassed.

4 March 1999 - Thrall
I'd like everyone to welcome Ripper to the GoonSquad! I'm sure most of you have seen him on our server before, if not I'm sure he'll be fragging away when you meet him. He will make a good addition to the clan, rounding out our skills. Give him a nice crunchy headshot for me when you see him : )

The schedule has been updated for the week, some details have yet to be finalized, but it's pretty much accurate. I'd like as many people as possible to attend our next practice, which will be held next wednesday at the usual time. We need to get used to each other's playing styles and work on our team work, in addition to getting Ripper familiarized with our members.

Thrall
Hey! You're not supposed to read this! This is top secret info for Webp1mps only! :p
26 February 1999 - Thrall
Hey people!! Wow! I actually got off my lazy ass and did something productive for once. I updated the files page, screenshots/demos page, and the schedule.

Of special interest, I put up a compilation of my favorite 3 crosshairs in pak file format in the files section. Now all you rumps that don't know how to use a pak editor can finally check them all out ( you know who you are :p ). There's also some new demos up, and a few old screenshots.

As far as real news goes, there hasn't been much action in the past week or so. We're still working on potential recruits, but if we let someone in we'll let you know about it. My creeping crud is slowly wearing off, and as soon as me and Dropzone feel better, the pace should start to pick back up. If anything else comes up, I'll let you people know.

Thrall

26 February 1999 - karmann
Hello all! Sorry I haven't updated recently. Like I mentioned before, I'm taking some time off. Dropzone and Thrall will be handling the web site and match setups. However, they've both been sick recently. Thrall let me know this morning that an update is forthcoming. I'll let him fill everyone in.

15 February 1999 - karmann
Well it's been a strange weekend. Too much AQ2 for me. A loss, tie and win.

Our server will be booked up a lot this week for matches between other clans. I've gotten lots of requests recently because of the CST2 tourney.

And lastly, I will be taking some time off from playing. I have some personal business that I need to concentrate on for the next several weeks. Someone needs to step up and handle match setups and stuff. Volunteers?

10 February 1999 - karmann
Check the schedule again. Slight modification.

9 February 1999 - karmann
This is gonna be a busy weekend:

1) The Clan Spam match has been moved from Friday night (1/12) to Monday night (1/15). Same time, etc.

2) In it's place will be an OGL match vs. DeltaForce. They challenged us so the maps that we chose were Cliff and Urban. This match may be Saturday night. Dunno yet.

3) The other match is against our old friends Elite Assasins. Sunday night at 9pm EST. We really need to stop playing the same clans again and again. This is just a scrimmage. The maps are Cliff, Urban and Urban2.

4) We also have a match against Deathsquad coming up next week. That one's for the Clanspot Tournament 2. Don't have any details yet.

Rosters and other sundry details will be coming shortly via email. I'll need to know everyones availability for Friday night through Wednesday night.

7 February 1999 - karmann
Dropzone said it would be like riding a bike. It's not. Up until today, I'd only played about 2.5 hours of AQ2 in the last two and a half weeks. God was I getting my ass kicked. That combined with my 320 ping and the fact that my server is becoming an LPB hang-out made for a very bad day. But I know that I can't give up just yet, so I'm about to jump back on and give it another shot.

We've received a number of requests to join our clan. Nobody I've heard of, but watch for these guys on our server and let me know if any of them are awesome: BullDog, Saint and Recon.

RiP had a match on my server Saturday afternoon. It was by far the biggest ass-kicking I've ever seen a clan dish out. The second round was on Urban with RiP coming out on top 25-0! Wow! They didn't crush the other team (QS) in the first round (Kumanru) but still won. QS actually did a very good job of playing as a team on Kumanru. They used partnering. The buddy was always around so anytime you ran into one you had to deal with two. Very cool.

And lastly, we've been challenged by Clan Spam. These guys are supposed to be amazing. Second only to GENO maybe. The best clan we've faced so far. This is only a scrimmage so let's use this as an opportunity to learn. Not saying that we're gonna lose but we could learn a lot from these guys. Maps are Cliff, Museum and Urban. Match is Friday night at 9pm est. Email your availability ASAP.

Note:
Yes I know there were posts for three months prior to this. My fault this time. Oh well.
